Previously, Gulfstream announced the construction of the two new models to an audience of about 3,000. At the event, the first G500 glided under its own power, and General Dynamics Chairperson and CEO Phebe Novakovic also unveiled the 70-foot model of the G600.

"Today’s announcement is a testament to the power of General Dynamics’ consistent and methodical investment in Gulfstream’s R & D and production," Novakovic said. "Our investments have been impressive, as evidenced by the two models announced today."

The G500 can fly 5,000 nautical miles/9,260 kilometers at Mach 0.85 and 3,800 nautical miles/7,038 kilometers at Mach 0.90. The G600 can fly 6,200 nautical miles/11,482 kilometers at Mach 0.85 and 4,800 nautical miles/8,890 kilometers at Mach 0.90. Both models can fly at a maximum speed of Mach 0.925, comparable to the Gulfstream G650 and G650ER.

"This is another extraordinary day at Gulfstream, steeped in storied history," said Larry Flynn, Gulfstream’s president. "I am very pleased to announce the birth of the next generation of Gulfstream aircraft. The G500 and G600 build on the technology of our G650 and newest model, the G650ER. Our customers have once again played an important role in developing and producing these aircraft. The G500 and G600 continue Gulfstream’s tradition of being the first equipment manufacturers to ensure optimized flight speed, range, cabin comfort and fuel efficiency."

The cabin is spacious and comfortable

The cabins of the G500 and G600 are renowned for their spaciousness, maximizing passenger comfort and aircraft performance.

Each model’s cabin is 91 inches/213 centimeters wide and 74 inches/188 centimeters high. It is spacious and comfortable, providing passengers with considerable headroom and shoulder space. Each model can carry up to 19 people. The G500 has three activity areas, the G600 up to four, and there is an additional crew lounge area. Both models have nose and tail restrooms, and there is a full-size kitchen that can be installed in the nose or tail. There is also ample storage space in the luggage compartment, with a usable volume of 175 cubic feet/5.0 cubic meters.

The cabin pressure levels of both aircraft models are also industry-leading, with 4,850 feet/1,578 meters at 51,000 feet/15,545 meters at altitude, 100% fresh air, reducing fatigue, improving passenger sobriety and productivity. The industry’s quietest cabin provides the ideal environment for work-related discussions and social conversations. Large oval windows the size of the G650 allow natural light to penetrate the cabin.

Newly designed Harmony cockpit with touchscreen and active control side levers

Gulfstream’s revolutionary new Harmony cockpit is the most advanced, stylish, comfortable, and intuitive in business aviation. Its cutting-edge technology is reflected in Active Control Sidebars (ACSs), which integrate touchscreen controllers, next-generation Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS), and Honeywell Primus Epic avionics.

Industry-first ACSs enhance safety and situational awareness through haptic feedback on passive joysticks. Through electronic links to ACSs, the driver and co-pilot can see and feel each other’s actions, helping to improve driver collaboration in the cockpit.

"Active control of the side rods allows the two drivers to stay in step and increases safety," said Dan Nale, senior vice president of design, planning and testing at Gulfstream. "No other business jet on the market has this feature."

In order to allow pilots to interact more intuitively with the aircraft, we have added 10 touchscreen designs for system control, flight management, communication, cheat lists, weather monitoring, and flight information.

The G500 and G600 combine the third-generation Gulfstream Synthetic Vision, Synthetic Vision-Main Flight Display System, and Head-Up Display II.

Like the G650 and G650ER, the G500 and G600 offer a full three-axis digital fly-by-wire system, with benefits including flight envelope protection, increased stability, increased redundancy, and reduced maintenance.

performance

The big difference between them and other models is the flight speed. The G500 and G600 have a maximum cruising rate of Mach 0.90, which saves up to an hour per flight compared to flying at Mach 0.80.

The G500 and G600 are powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada’s new PW800 series engines. The PW800 saves fuel, has low emissions, is low in noise, has a 10,000-hour overhaul interval, requires no midway inspections, and has low operating costs.

The combination of the new PW800 engine with Gulfstream-designed wings makes the G500 and G600 the industry’s leading fuel-efficient models.

plan

Gulfstream will produce wings and vertical and horizontal stabilizers for the G500 and G600, which will be built at two new purpose-built plants in Savannah.

The first G500 is scheduled to leave the factory in 2015. Gulfstream is expected to receive certification from the Federal Aviation Administration and the European Aviation Safety Agency in 2017, with deliveries starting in 2018.

The G600 flight test program is expected to begin about a year to a year and a half after the G500 flight test, and is expected to enter the market in 2019.

"The G500 and G600 add to our range of aircraft and open up new market segments to our extensive production line," Flynn said. "In 2008, we introduced two models, the G650 and G280, which changed the ecology of business aviation. Six years later, we are now introducing two revolutionary models, the G500 and G600. Thank you to our people for making this possible. Those who build, design, develop, sell, market activities, service and support our aircraft, you are in the industry."
